Name: Rice
Age: 8 Moons
Gender: She-cat
Clan: Loner
Rank: None
Picture:
Appearance:
Slender with a delicate frame, upon first glance most cats underestimate the she-cat. However, despite her small size, she is lightning fast (not literally) and can deal a nasty bite with sharp fangs that her breed is known for.
With soft, medium-length fur, she has chocolate socks that form into a velvety black at the toes. Face and ears splashed with an attractive shadow, beautiful blue eyes are her only momento of her differences from her family.
Her black tail is long, and the she-cat moves with elegance and grace despite her shy nature. A fine shaped head and body, her only flaw is, if you look closely, her left paw is slightly crooked.
Personality:
Though her image is that of a charming young she-cat, Rice is actually quite shy, and she often tries staying away from crowds. Anti-social, she isn't very comfortable around other cats, and the few conversations she has with them often end awkwardly. Usually, upon sighting any others, she'll flee immediately or just hide in a tree or beneath a bush.
Despite her bashful nature, she is an extremely humble cat and can be quite friendly and talkative when facing the topic of birds. Strangely, she will hunt any prey besides the feathered creatures. When she meets new cats, if she stays long enough to get to know them, they might learn more about her dreamier side, and her desire to be free to do what she wants.
One day, Rice hopes to have a family and take them to the mountains, where birds are plentiful.
Even stranger, the young cat is deathly afraid of water. This is most likely due to the fact that her younger brother drowned, but she has never really clarified with anyone as to why she fears the liquid depths.
On the rare occassion that she does make a friend though, she can be quite charming and cheerful, often causing her few friends to be her best as well.
History:
Born into a large family, Rice grew up in the forest with her 6 siblings and her two parents. Rice was the third youngest, and living in a crowded den, she was often dismissed while her parents tended to her youngest littermates. Though her 2 eldest siblings were old enough to go off on their own, Matria and Rilan, their parents, wanted them all to stick together as kin should.
Because her parents never had time for her, Rice would often go off and play on her own or with her siblings. Growing independent, she became used to making up her own games, and her imagination expanded vividly.
Beside her family's nest, an oak tree was home to a large flock of sparrows, and the she-cat would often listen to their chirping when noone was paying attention to her.
One day, while she was out playing with her brothers, the youngest (Mel), fell into the river. Rice, Ivan, and Cross called for their parents and tried following their brother as far downstream as possible, but by the time Matria and Rilann arrived, Mel was nowhere to be found.
Her parents were grief-stricken at the loss of their youngest son, and they kept an even closer eye on all their kits. However, Rice always somehow managed to slip away unnoticed.
Often, her siblings would tease her for being the only one with blue eyes. All her kin had either brown or green orbs, and though they were only poking for fun, the she-cat wasn't sure how to respond to their remarks, so she grew even more distant from her family.
At 6 moons, her father took her and Keyna out to learn how to hunt. Rice's nimble grace made her a natural. However, the next day all her siblings gathered around by the oak tree. Keyna said that Rice's only friends were the sparrows, and that if she was really their kin, she would go up and hunt one to feed their family.
At first, naturally, the she-cat was reluctant. The birds were the only creatures she could be with without feeling self-concious, even if they didn't actually communicate and they kept their distance because her gentleness didn't change the fact that she was a predator. However, the same yearning to be accepted despite her differences urged her to climb the tree.
As she got higher and higher, she had set her sights on a bird busy with something at the edge of a high, far-reaching branch. When she had been about to pounce, her siblings had held their breaths in anticipation. However, as she leaped through the air, she realized the bird was a mother, and she saw it feeding its chicks.
Instantly, she was reminded of her own family, and how much it hurt to lose someone close to you, and she faltered at the last moment. Unfortunately, in exchange for the bird and it's youngs' lives, Rice fell from the tree and landed on her left forepaw.
Immediately her parents heard the commotion her siblings were making, and they rushed over to tend to her. However, it was too late. And though her paw was still useable, it had been twisted slightly to the side permanently, giving it a bit of an awkward look when she sat down.
Even though no one brought up the situation after that, Rice felt miserable and ashamed. Not only had she turned against her only 'friends', but she had also lost what little respect and attention she had from her family. Her parents payed less attention to her, convinced that the whole bird stunt had been her attempt to be in the spotlight, only it had gone wrong. Her siblings never mentioned it around her, but she always knew when they were staring at her maimed paw.
Finally, one day, Rice asked her mother to teach her how to hunt. It was the first time she had ever directly requested anything from her parents, but she was lucky when Matria agreed. Mother and daughter trained the entire day and even the next. Three days passed after that, and one night, Rice slipped away into the darkness.
She had learned her survival skills, and it was time for her to go off on her own journey where she could be herself without worrying about her family's approval. Though she would miss their playful bickering yet warm companionship, she knew that if she ever wanted to be happy, then that wasn't the life for her.
Setting off, she traveled for two days until she came across the forest where the four clans resided. Though she hadn't been expecting so many cats to be in the area, she set up her own 'territory' in what woodland was left spared from the warriors' terrain.
However, despite her commitment to starting a new life at such a young age, she never learned how to really communicate with other cats due to the fact that she had been so used to living independantly in the first place.
