Midnight Mirage stalked through the unfamiliar territory. She had already ran into two dogs which she has gotten a couple of scratches for, but they thought of her as too small and let her go, strangely. She raced from tree trunk to tree trunk, being as cautious as she could. She could sense something following her from above, but it seemed familiar to her so she sat down and waited for the other to join her. Gypsy ran through the trees after Midnight and stopped as she stopped at a tree. She climbed down and nodded to Midnight. It took you a while to realize i was here. You usually notice earlier than that. Gypsy gave her a weak smile before continuing. There is a large amount of dogs around here, more than usual. We might want to get outta here before a cat with a bad case of personality comes by or worse, a group of dogs. You're safe, but I'm plumper than you and both of us could make a good meal. Midnight Mirage looked at her friend with guarded eyes. Gypsy was right. Another less nice kitty could come around and might make a meal outta them if they didn't get out or a dog got them. Ok then. You go back into the trees and we will make our way near the territories again. If we pass by RiverClan we should be fine, I have friends there that'll help us get home. She looked around quickly and thought she saw something. Get in the trees now! Something is here.. she hissed quietly to her friend. Something was with them and she hoped it would be friend, not foe...

It was funny how Night seemed to get himself into these situations. Only a few nights ago he'd gone and fallen into a ditch and nearly killed himself. In fact, if it wasn't for Bleak, he probably wouldn't be around right now. He would have smiled had it not stung his eye, and he winced and crouched closer to the ground, fangs pulling back in a threatening snarl. It was strange how fate seemed to hunt him down. It was like this; if Thorn didn't get him, something else would. And if he didn't die naturally, Thorn would never stop chasing him anyway.
Taking a step back, he froze as the dog let out a blood-curling growl as it headed towards him for another charge. Really, how did I get into this? Mouse-dung, stay on guard. Leaping backwards swiftly as the dog shot forward, the tom's hindlegs kicked off from the ground as he sailed up and over the hound. Landing on all fours, he didn't even bother with checking the canine's location. His paws sent him sprinting forward and he hurtled ahead, handsome black fur a blur in the night. He could hear the dog behind him; its bulky body crushing the undergrowth as its paws thudded heavily upon the ground.
Find a tree, find a tree. Violet eyes darting across his surroundings, he spotted a tall elm up ahead that possessed several low branches that he could reach if he jumped high enough. And then he felt a stinging pain at the end of his tail. His banner wasn't trapped between the jagged jaws, but it was enough to throw him off balance, and the black tom staggered sideways, his shoulder colliding with the bark of an ash. And then there was a sudden force crushing his body against the trunk and he could feel the jagged patterns gnawing, rubbing, shredding through his fur and into his skin as he was pummeled into the ground by enormous paws each the size of his head. Coughing painfully, he unsheathed his claws and thrashed outwards in a desperate attempt to save himself, and the natural blood of the fighter that ran through his family took action. It didn't take long for Night to compose himself, and he slipped under the canine, sinking his fangs into one heel as he did so. Whirling around in a mixture of blind rage and fury, the dog snarled and napped its jaws shut a whisker's length from the tom's ear. Tearing backwards, he felt the tender sinews of muscle rip beneath his grip and so he finally let go as the dog's howl of agony rose into the air, sending the sleeping birds fluttering frantically from their nests in a wild panic.
Night wasted no more time. Turning on his hindlegs, he slashed his talons across the dog's eyes before darting off into the darkness. The tree was close now, and he lunged upwards, forepaws wrapping around the branch as he easily pulled himself up. Ignoring the throbbing in his limbs, he climbed higher and higher until he had reached half-way up where he was far from the dog's reach. Breathing deeply, the tom was unaware of the two she-cats a little distance away as he crouched down, indigo gaze searching the forest floor. However, the dog seemed to have grown tired of the difficult tom, and so it barked a few more times before wandering back off into the woods.
"Lord of the skies, keep Bleak and Minx safe." He prayed softly before looking up at the moon and then down at his paws. The black fur was darkened and matted with the blood of himself and the dog, and he carefully set to cleaning his wounds. The cut above his eye was still stinging, and he was aware of the liquid trickling into the violet orb, disturbing his vision. "Ow, fox-dung." He cursed under his breath as his paw brushed the sliver. It was a shallow cut, but head wounds bled a lot more than anywhere else.

Midnight Mirage watched Night with curious eyes. She looked up at Gypsy in the tree and smiled. Gypsy knew this cat, she could tell by the shocked look on her face. Midnight walked out of her place and up the tree Gypsy was in. Gypsy looked at Midnight and then back at Night. She jumped through the branches to where he was and purred. Well howdy there stranger! she chuckled and looked at Midnight Mirage who was struggling to jump through the trees. Just use your tail to balance hunny. You're doing great! So how are you Night? it's been a while hasn't it? she said as she was looking back at Night. She licked his head to catch the blood about to get in his eyes. Midnight Mirage looked at gypsy with wonder. She would have never done what Gypsy did. Blood is gross.... she thought. She ignored herself and got back in the conversation. Thanks Gyp! she chirped. She and Heather were the only ones to call her Gyp, her nickname which Gypsy hated sometimes.

Blinking, the tom nearly fell out of the tree from surprise. Violet eyes flashing as he looked over his shoulder at where the voice had come from. His shock was extended further when he recognized the dark outline of Gypsy, and another unrecognizable figure behind her. "Ah- Gypsy!" He purred in greeting, eyes warm with friendliness as he acknowledged his companion from the journey. He was just about to reply to her question when she rasped her tongue over his wound. Shutting his eye reflexively, he opened it again slowly and smiled in gratitude. "I'm good, doing the best to take care of myself without those dogs running loose. How are you? I see you're in good company."
He meowed, smiling in an unintentionally charming way at the cat behind her. The scent was foreign, and he wasn't sure he'd met this cat that Gypsy was calling 'hunny'. Then again, it was probably a nickname. He had always known Gypsy's sister Heather had never really seemed to like him much, so it was good to think that her littermate didn't necessarily share the same feelings. I still don't even know why she was so reserved around me. It's good that she got along with Bleak though. I'm glad he was able to socialize.
Resting his thoughts in relief, he waved his tail at Midnight Mirage before wincing slightly as he brushed his injured tail-tip against the branch.

Midnight Mirage dipped her head in greeting and began to feel tired. She lied down in the tree and began to doze, sensing they were gonna be here a while. Gypsy looked at Midnight then back at Night. This is Midnight Mirage. We met in rather embarressing ways. she chuckled as she remembered the night she met her. Gypsy was stuck in a sappy tree and Midnight had helped her out of it. SHe then gasped as Night winced. Be careful ya clutz! she mewed jokingly. So what brings you out here?

Though Night didn't remember the she-cat being this friendly due to her secretive entrance on their first meeting, it was reassuring and actually quite refreshing to know that she too was just like any other cat; happy and friendly. He couldn't remember the last time he'd seen such a carefree smile. "Well, other than trying to save my pelt, I came out looking for Bleak. I haven't seen him in a while, so I was just a bit curious as to how he was."
The tom meowed matter-of-factly as if it was completely expected that Gypsy understand that, even if the two had decided to become 'brothers' only several moons ago, he was in charge of watching over the tom. Maybe it was because Night was so fond of the tom that he had agreed to become 'kin', or due to the fact that he missed having company or living with a family. Maybe if his kin had died off slowly over time he wouldn't feel this way, but it was all at once that they'd been swept away, so he'd never had the proper time to adjust to their missing company.
"And how about you? What have you been up to recently? I recall you were without a companion the last time we met." Purring in amusement as the other she-cat promptly took a nap, he smiled softly as he noted how similar Midnight Mirage's personality was to his cousin Blacky.

Ah yes, well, I decided i didn't want to be alone anymore after I met Midnight here. She keeps me busy, as i do her. she laughed at him. Night was so close with Bleak. Gypsy wished she had a good relationship with her sister. They usually were sibling rivals of comedy so they were always trying to find a new way to make other laugh. She stared at Night and laughed... again. She loved to laugh, no matter how bad things got.
Midnight Mirage stared at Night with a strange look in her eyes. There was something about him... she couldn't tell what emotion it made her feel. Was it worry? She shook her head slightly and began to speak. I feel a worried presence coming from you. Are you running from someone, or scared of someone coming after you? She didn't know, but she wanted to find out... For her sake so she can find out more about this cat.
