A tabby she-cat walked through the forest, looking for some prey. She smelled the air and scented a shrew. She dropped into the hunter crouch and slowly moved forward. She spotted the shrew the same time it saw her, but she was faster. She jumped to kill it when...Beechflight awoke from a pain that was almost to much to bear. I'm having my kits, she thought. She got up and walked to Whisperrain's den. She padded in, trying to ignore the pain. "Whisperrain...," she called. She didn't think that she could bear the pain much longer. I have to think of a temporary replacement deputy, she remembered. She quickly thought of all of the good cat that would make a good temporary replacement. Cliffstone!, she thought. A sudden stab of pain brought her back to the present. "Whisperrain!"

Darkstar could hear Beechflight calling for the Medicine Cat. He quickly padded from his spot near his Den, to the Medicine Cat's Den. "Beechflight, are you okay?" he asked worriedly. The tom's eyes glittered with worry. He didn't want his mate to be in pain. But...wait... She's expecting kits! he thought suddenly. Darkstar licked Beechflight's head softly a couple times. "Why don't you lay down my dear?" he said softly.

"Ok, thanks. Hey will I choose him to be the temporary replacement deputy? I didn't get to tell him before because I just chose." Sudden jolts of pain shot through Beechflight. She let out a yowl filled with pain. "And will you get Whisperrain? I need her." Another burst of pain shot through her. "NOW!"

[Blarg, super sorry for the late reply. xO] The she-cat had been asleep, and even though it was restless and wreathed in hidden dangers, it provided her with subtle comfort. However, the silence in the Medicine Cat den was shattered by a resounding shout that echoed across the camp.
Jolting upright, turquoise eyes flew open as the startled she-cat sat up, her gaze darting around wildly before she calmed herself. Angling her ears towards the den entrance, she waited in silence, but there were no other sounds. Funny. I swore I heard someone shouting my name. A dream, maybe? Sighing, she remained still as a stone for several more moments before she lay back down. However, her nerves wouldn't settle, and she had a persistent feeling that someone needed her. Growling under her breath, the silver cat stood up reluctantly and headed out of the den, standing in the center of camp as she stood in silence.
Moon-light bathed the area in an irredescent glow, and she closed her eyes momentarily. That was when she heard voices stirring in the darkness. She thought she recognized them; one, the lower toned, seemed to be that of Darkstar. And it was coming from the Nursery. "What is he doing over there?"
And then she remembered all at once. At first it hadn't come to her due to the fact that she'd been half-asleep. How long had it been now? A little over 2 moons? Yes, that seemed right. Without hesitation, the she-cat spun around and darted back into the Medicine Cat den. She would need honey, thyme, or, actually, she could just use borage leaves in replace of the honey. Yes, that'll do just fine. I'll bring some poppy seeds in case she has trouble sleeping after that. Than again, whose to say she won't be admiring them for the rest of the night?
Smiling softly to herself, she felt a sudden pang of loneliness inside. It must be nice to have a mate and kits, cats to call family, your kin. That way, you knew you were never alone. What was it like feeling those tiny kittens curled up next to you and imagining the great warriors they would become one day? Swallowing the pit in her throat, she pushed back her emotions and hurriedly sorted through her herb stocks, heading swiftly over to the Nursery. Laughing softly, she wondered if the two cats would be at all surprised to know she had arrived to help on a whim.

Beechflight was bearing the pain, while eagerly waiting for Whisperrain. When she heard the pad of paws, she shouted, "Whisperrain! There you are." She decided to cut right to the chase. "I'm almost positive the kits are coming because these pains are worse than the normal ones." A sudden burst shot through her and she flinched back to prove her point.

Smiling reassuringly, the she-cat thanked Starclan that Beechflight was such a level-headed cat. Then again, she wouldn't expect any less from her clan's deputy. She'd dealt with many fearful she-cats who had doubted their own ability to deliver and raise kits, but it was a relief to know that she wouldn't have any trouble with Beechflight. The she-cat might as well be nervous about having her first litter too, but if she was, she sure didn't show it. "Right. It should be any time soon. Darkstar, I don't mean to be rude, but it would probably be best if you waited a little farther to the side. She'll need room once the kits are born."
Dipping her head curtly to her leader, she rested one paw gently on the she-cat's side, and sure enough, a wave seemed to pass through the cat's pelt, and she was positive that Shadowclan would have some new editions before the night was over. "Alright, just take deep breaths. The key is to measure out your nerves so that you have enough energy to push them out when the time's right."
She meowed calmly, glancing over her shoulder at where the camp resided in darkness. The nursery was practically empty other than Beechflight and her soon to be kits, but she couldn't help but worry about how Darkstar would deal with the temporary loss of his deputy. He couldn't possibly expect the she-cat to deal with her kits and the weight of her clan duties. Most likely he would appoint a temporary replacement, though she had a feeling there would be some controversy once Beechflight's kits were apprenticed and she was able to take her spot back.

The light brown tabby was glad that Whisperrain had sent Darkstar away. She listened to the medicine cat carefully. "Ok." Beechflight started taking deep breaths. She realized that she had started breathing faster and faster with each breath. "When will I know when its time?"

Blinking, she smiled reassuringly at the deputy. "Soon. You'll know when a spasm of pain passes through you. I'm afraid it'll be much more painful than the others, but that is when you must push. Don't worry," Looking down at the she-cat encouragingly, she let the cat know that there was nothing to fear. "You're a young, healthy she-cat. You're kits and you will be fine."
Purring, she felt another wave ripple across the she-cat's pelt. They were coming at a faster rate now, and it would be any time. Soon...

OOC: In case you don't remember, she's having 2 kits. A boy and a girl.
Beechflight felt a wave of pain pass through her, meaning that there would be kits soon. "How many am I having?" She wanted to know so she knew how much pain there would be. She looked around and felt another wave. Soon...
OOC: sorry it's so short. I have to go.

[Mkay, thanks for the reminder =) And don't worry about the post. As long as it's easy to reply to. Lol.] Holding back a purr of amusement at the she-cat's curiosity, she smiled and reminded herself that it was Beechflight's first litter, so it was only natural that she be concerned about how much pain to brace herself for. Looking up at the she-cat, she looked back down and felt the deputy's stomach gently. She could sense the wriggling bodies within, and sure enough, she felt a kick here and then the turn of another. However, she could not find any others. Smiling, she glanced up at the she-cat, turquoise eyes soft. "Two. They're moving a lot, so it shouldn't be long now."

OOC:ok how about now?
Beechflight was relived by the news. She felt a burst of pain that was almost unbearable. She figured that it must be time to push. She pushed with all of her might and knew the first kit was out. She didn't know what to do, so she started to push again, knowing there was another kit coming. She pushed with more power this time and then knew the second and last kit was out. She let out a sigh and waited for Whisperrain to tell her what to do.

[Kay, that's fine.] Feeling a sudden wave pass through the she-cat that was much stronger than those before, the she-cat knew the kits were coming, and her guess was proved correct when first one and then another tiny bundle appeared beside their mother in the nest. Smiling comfortingly at Beechflight, she gazed down at the kits wistfully. If I'd taken a different path, this could've been my future...
Crouching down, she flicked her tail towards the mother, signaling for her to follow the medicine cat's example. Gently, she began grooming one kitten, a she-cat, her tongue rubbing the kit's fur the wrong way. "Do the same, and it'll help warm them." She meowed through her task, wondering if this was what had motivated Lightshed into leaving the clans; betraying Whisperrain and all of Shadowclan, including their warrior ancestors. Did she leave because when she looked at that tom, she saw these kits? What does it feel like... Love for a mate and your kits...
Sighing, she shook away those thoughts, because she knew she would never know those feelings. They weren't hers to experience, and she had been aware of this inevitable fact since the day she'd been apprenticed to Lightshed, the cat who would run off and leave her broken seasons later.

Beechflight did as Whisperrain told her, and licked the fur of her new kit the wrong way. She had the tom. She licked and licked until the he seemed dry. She turned to Whisperrain and meowed, "Is this good enough?" She figured it was and then asked, "Where's Darkstar? I'm sure he wants to see his kits."
