[navy]The sun might've hone brightly, but whether it did or did not wasn't up to the tom. Rather, he had no clue what it was doing. The thick mass of treetops obscurred his view of the brilliant star, and he rolled onto his back, reaching one forepaw up as though to brush across the leafy sky.
Blinking, shadows passed over the cat's teal eyes, and he sighed, closing his eyes as he gradually slipped into a dream.
Darkness. Freezebreath sat up, surrounded by blackness. Shaking his head, he blinked, wondering if he'd somehow rolled into a cave. But even that thought was foolish as he sat up. There were no caves in Shadowclan territory, so where was he?
Looking around himself, the gray tabby took a step forward, and was startled at the feel of water beneath him, as though he was standing in a puddle. Looking down, he could see ripples of white where his paw had made contact, yet the water didn't reflect blue. Rather, it remained a sludgy black, and he looked up again, realizing he must be in a dream.
Knowing it was probably another pointless message, he was about to lay back down when a voice suddenly called out to him. Blinking, the tom straightened and looked up, eyes widening as he recognized a painfully familiar face.
Sharp torquoise eyes, shimmering silver fur, a soft smile.
"Whisperrain? What are you doing in my dream? You're always telling me I can't ask about your Medicine Cat prophecies, you hypocrit."
Still, the tom couldn't help but grin at the sight of his beloved sister. Bounding over, he halted abruptly when she meowed,
"No. Stop. You can't come over here."
Furrowing his expression in confusion, he took one step towards her before stopping again.
"What do you mean? You're not in trouble, are you? This is just a dream."
The she-cat smiled again, and this time the tom was shocked to see flickers of sadness in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, Freezebreath. You can't come here. This is my path, not your's. Let go and move on."
Her voice was a whisper, and though he wasn't completely sure what she was talking about, he felt hollow inside as he heard her words.
"What're you talking about? We're littermates, we can go anywhere together. Stop joking around Whisperrain."
He meowed uneasily, smiling nervously at the she-cat. The silver warrior blinked and shook her head, backing away into the darkness.
"No. Not everywhere. Stay, Freezebreath. This is my path. You can't come here."
Panic filled him as his sister gradually began disappearing, and the tom's paws thudded against the liquid ground as he raced after her, eyes wide as he dashed towards the ghost.
"I don't understand! Just because you're a Medicine Cat, doesn't mean we're no longer kin! Whisperrain, Whisperrain!"
Suddenly, he felt his run slowing down, but he couldn't recall losing any energy. That was when he felt icy water lapping at his fur. Eyes widening, he looked down and realized he was sinking. The ground had lost its stability, and he was slowly being sucked into its watery depths.
Desperate, he looked up, screaming for his sister to come back, to help him, to stay. The water rose, or rather, he sunk deeper until finally, his head was dunked under. Taking a gulp of air as he was trapped beneath the surface, he slowly felt his conciousness ebbing away until his head rang and he slipped into an even darker sleep. However, just before his eyes closed, he swore he saw his sister's face staring down at him, a sad smile as she whispered,
"Good-bye, Freezebreath. After all, it was just a dream all along."
Cold, isolated. The tom shivered and opened his eyes. He was still in the forest, lying on his side, vision level with the tree roots. Shuddering, he sat up, trying to shake the feel of his dream off of him.
What the hell was that supposed to be? Just a dream? What was just a dream?
Part of him knew that his nightmare wasn't real, but it still felt as though he had truly been in that dark place, speaking with his sister, begging her to stay. Closing his eyes, he shook his head slowly until the bleary coating in his mind had vanished.
But really... Our friendship, our bond as kin... Was that all just a dream too?
He wasn't sure, but he willed his intuition to be wrong, and he stood up, stretching. Looking around, he was alarmed to find that the forest was even darker than before, and he realized it must already be night. Cursing under his breath for having slept so long, he suddenly felt a rumbling in his stomach, and his ears flicked in rapid motions as he licked his muzzle, realizing he hadn't eaten since the 3 mice he'd had that morning.
