Hawktail kept her paw over her face as she listened to Snaketail speak. "Lucky? You think so?" she mewed once he had finished speaking. He was so kind, Snaketail. The tabby lifted her head and looked at the tom with her pale green eyes, and a small smile spread across her face. "I'm the lucky one, Snaketail." She rose to her paws. "I'm lucky I have friends like you around."
OOC:: It's short, I know... And a little sappy, but you know...

Snaketail smiled back at the she-cat, thinking she looked much happier than before. "Thanks." he purred. There was a slight awkward pause before the tom meowed, "You won't feel so lucky I'm here if I catch more prey than you!" he flashed a challenging but also 'It's all in good fun' sort of look to Hawktail. He really appreciated that she had called him her friend, as he knew now that had to be something big for the former rouge. However, he also didn't want that typical awkward silence after a deep conversation...The brown tom flicked his snake-like tail back and forth, causing small poofs of dust to rise near wherever it landed. He waited to see if Hawktail was ready to hunt again.
OOC: Mine is short too. And don't think he's trying to be mean. I really was trying to avoid a typical awkward pause... =)

OOC:: Meh... It happens!
"A competition, huh?" The tabby ducked down and, with one swift movement, knocked the paws out from underneath the brown tom. Watching him land, Hawktail laughed. "Well, how's that for lucky?" She flicked her ears teasingly and shot away into the bushes, pausing and waving her tail in a 'Catch me if you can' way, then dashing off again. In her run, she spotted a mouse sniffing about, not really caring for the dangers around it. The tabby made a sharp turn and snatched up the mouse in her jaws, squeezing just enough to break the spine. She veered off and exploded back into the clearing that her and Snaketail had spoken, dropping her catch and yowling out, "Put your catches in a pile in the clearing. That is, if you catch anything." She turned and began to run again.

Snaketail fell to the ground laughing, and before he was back on his paws, Hawktail had vanished again. The tom barely had time to glance around him before she had returned, carrying a dead mouse in her jaws. She dropped it and instructed that he would make a pile of his prey here near hers. Snaketail was impressed by Hawktail's speedy first catch. He flashed a toothy grin when the she-cat made her remark. "And when I've caught more than double what you have, you'll own me an apology for that statement!" he joked, before turning around and disappearing as she had before. He sniffed out the scent of shrew and dropped low, closing in on the creature. He could now see it scuffling for food a few pawsteps away. Snaketail quickly lunged at it, grabbing its neck within his fangs and ending its life. He collected the kill and raced back to the clearing to deposit it.

OOC:: Is it okay if we do a time skip? It's basically going to be the same thing for awhile if we don't...
Hawktail ran back to the clearing and dropped a water vole on her pile. She had managed to catch three voles, two squirrels, four mice, and a water vole. She looked up to see that they had been hunting all day and exhaustion dragged at her paws. She settled herself down and called out, "Bring your last catch! The contest is over." The tabby warrior glanced around the marsh clearing, which was quiet at the moment. She sighed and scented the air, catching Snaketail's scent not too far off.

Snaketail approached Hawktail with his mouth totally full. He thought he had done pretty well. He had caught a shrew, a squirrel, a frog, two black birds, and four mice. He dropped his most recent catches, two of the four mice, into his pile and smiled at Hawktail. Their piles looked about the same in size, but only counting would tell that. After a moment of assessing his own pile, the tom meowed, "Nine. I caught nine pieces of prey." he looked at Hawktail's pile, thinking that at any rate, this would be a close call...
OOC: I don't mind time jumps. Thanks for the heads up though! I'd have been really confused otherwise. =)

Hawktail examined her pile of prey once Snaketail had finished. She shot a toothy grin at him once she had done her counting. "Ten," she meowed, bringing her tail around and touching Snaketail's nose. "I have ten pieces of prey. That means I win!" the tabby almost bounced around the clearing. She sat down, extending her front paw to the tom. "Good hunt." This was what each cat did after a hunt back in her old home; bring their front paws together so they touched. A paw-shake, as it was called. She smiled to the tom.

Snaketail looked at Hawktail and gave an fake dramatic sigh. "You cheated!" he joked, as he faked anger. Then he smiled to show he was kidding around. When his friend extended her paw, he looked at it and blinked. Snaketail was uncertain of what he should do with it. "Good hunt to you as well!" he meowed with a second glance at the paw. "Uhh..." he trailed off and gave Hawktail a confused look, hoping she would explain.
OOC: Sorry. Short and yucky. lol

Hawktail sputtered with laughter at the confused look on the tom's face. She grinned at him before she explained. "Back at my old home, after each hunt for fun, the challengers would shake paws. Here, I'll show you." she reached forward and lifted the tom's paw with her own. She curled her paw, gripping Snaketail's gently. She lifted the two paws up, then down. "Like that," she murmured.
OOC:: AGH!! Short because I gotta go to a hair cut appointment.

Snaketail smiled as Hawktail laughed. "Oh alright! I'm out of the loop...." he laughed embarrassed. As Hawktail showed him how to do the shake, he caught on. "Cool! It seems like a good way to show sportscatship...." he purred, moving his paw against Hawktail's on his own now. "Thanks for the insight!" he meowed, his eyes bright. "Is that like a secret thing I shouldn't know? Or am I allowed to tell others?" he asked. He was half joking, but also serious. He didn't want to say something if this was supposed to be a secret...
OOC: sorry. Mine is short too. And cruddy....

Hawktail tipped her head to the side and purred. "I guess it doesn't matter if you tell the others. It's just something that we did after a hunt; nothing secret." She turned her head upward, looking at the sky. "we should probably get going. the others might wonder where we've been all day. And what kind of word is sportscatship?" she added. She released a loud laugh and stood up, shaking her head. She flicked her tail to Snaketail, "Come on. let's get going."
OOC:: Sheesh... the lack of muse is killing me...

Snaketail laughed as he fell into to step next to Hawktail. He walked at a medium pace, as he wasn't really rushing to reach camp, but also didn't think it was a good time for a leisurely strole..."Sportscatship. It means like, how you act in a competition. For example, good sportscatship is when you are alright when you lose. Bad would be to freak out and attack the opponent." the tom laughed. He had heard the phrase from a loner he met on the way to Mothermouth once. No clan cats really used it... Snaketail flashed a toothy grin at his own strange vocabulary.
OOC: Same here....=)

Hawktail smiled softly. "I see. Well, you show very good sportscatship." She returned his silly grin. Looking ahead again, Hawktail kept pace with Snaketail, her steps slightly faster because of her shorter legs. Mischief crept into the dark she-cat's eyes, and she shoved Snaketail in the side with her own. she sputtered with laughter.

"Thanks!" Snaketail meowed. There was quite a moment, and he glanced over at Hawktail. He caught the look in her eyes a moment too late. The she-cat bumped his side playfully, and laughed. Snaketail couldn't help but laugh too, before pulling a fake annoyed face and giving her a bump in return. "Take that!" he purred. His yes twinkled and he batted her ear with his paw. The tom put no power behind the blow, for this was all in good fun. He smiled and ducked, crouching low to the ground. His tail flicked back and forth at a faster than normal pace. He looked almost like a very pointy eared, long tailed dog, though he didn't realize it.
OOC: ...Same here...=)

Hawktail laughed as Snaketail threw a fake look and a playful blow. Seeing him drop, the tabby copied. She sprang forward and shoved the tom over, pinning him down with her own weight. Her pale green eyes danced with laughter. "Take that!" she purred. She gently battered his belly with her hind paws, using no power like he had. Rolling away, Hawktail laid on her back, her paws tucked in like an innocent kit. A purr rumbled in her throat, and she giggled. "Snaketail, you're fun. I haven't had this much fun ever!" she meowed. She looked over at her 'opponent' and smiled sweetly.
