It took sandkit a short time for him to catch on. "I can take a silly little hawk, besides i think i know which way they went, getting help would slow us down."Sandkit puffed his chest out to help with his spark of bravery. But that only lasted a few moments as fear for his Gorsekit and Decipherkit struck.Anything could happen to them out there.
Without another word Sandkit turned on his heels and bolted for the warriors den. "Help is on the way Ivytail." Streaking through camp at top speed Sandkit tumbled into the warriors den hardly standing still and sputtering to get the words out."help......gorse..........the hawk..........someone follow me!" Sandkit didnt wait for anyone to say anything before stumbling back out of the den.

Cloverleaf happened to be in the warrior's den looking for her apprentice when Sandkit burst in howling about a hawk and 'gorse'. Without further explanation, the kit ran off. He had looked genuinely worried, and the medicine cat's Starclan sense kicked in. "Gorsekit." she meowed as Starclan sent her an image of the little tom cowering in tall grass. She sped off after Sandkit, following him to Ivytail. Realizing her feelings were correctly placed, she nodded to the queen and started to run out of the camp. Ivytail at her heels. The two she-cats ran, not even needing to follow scent trails. All they had to do was go toward the giant hawk...
OOC: Sandkit could follow us, because I haven't the heart to stomp on his enthusiasm....=) I had them leave without telling him whether to stay or come. That way, it is open for him to choose!

Decipherkit pressed against Gorsekit in the hole, eyes squeezed shut and fear shaking her body. Her mind was a swirl of fear and confusion. Questions and scenes ran through her head as she thought about the possibility of the hawk getting her or Gorsekit. "Gorsekit?" she whispered, making sure he was still there. Terror numbed her as she couldn't feel anything around her.

Ivytail raced out of the camp, Cloverleaf right next to her. The mother felt her heart thudding so hard it threatened to burst through her chest. Seeing the panic that crossed the medicine cat's face as she ran out of camp, Ivytail knew her son must be in real danger. Probably that little Decipherkit as well...The queen ran even faster, pushing her legs to move at speeds she didn't know she could achieve. She ignored the ache as they protested against this intense movement. Suddenly, Cloveleaf made a sharp turn, veering left. Ivytail followed, turning like a bird changes direction in the sky. Cloverleaf spotted a hawk circling in the sky, and smelled the scent of frightened kits ahead. "Where are they?" the gray and white she-cat meowed, desperately peering through the tall grass. Ivytail could see Cloverleaf's desperation, and that drove her to a rash decision. The mother ran right out under where the hawk flew. She sniffed the air and followed her son's scent to the entrance of a burrow. "Gorsekit! Decipherkit!" she yowled. Meanwhile, the hawk turned its sharp eyes to the burrow entrance, deciding if it should dive for the big one, or scare it off and dig for the small ones...

Decipherkit jumped when she heard Ivytail. Looking up at the she-cat, Decipherkit felt relief flow over her, though fear of the hawk still loomed over her mind. "I-is it gone?" she whispered, still trembling a bit. The kit pressed close to Gorsekit, his warm fur making her trembling stop.

Gorsekit was trying to comfort Decipherkit, when he heard a very familiar voice calling out for them. "Mother!" he called. "It must be." he added to his friend. The little tom crawled forward, and poked his head out of the burrow. "Mother!" he called again. He could see Ivytail standing feet away. Surely things were all safe for the kits to leave the burrow. His mother began to meow something, but the young tom never heard her words. A loud screech above him drowned them out. The hawk was still flying above them! Gorsekit shrunk back, unsure of how to get to safety..."The hawk's still out there, but so is my mother." Gorsekit meowed, trying to sound confident that everything would be alright.
Meanwhile, Ivytail and Cloverleaf had decided to take a risk. Cloverleaf would pull the kits out and give them cover, while Ivytail would give the medicine cat cover. An odd plan, perhaps, but they needed to do something. Hawks could be quite patient when they wanted to, and none of the cats wanted to be there all day. Cloverleaf, staying low, went over to the burrow entrance. "Come out. We'll cover you." she called to the kits hiding inside.

Decipherkit looked uncertainly at Cloverleaf and then at Gorsekit. She padded hesitantly to the entrance where Cloverleaf was and waited beside the she-cat for Gorsekit. Still trembling, she puffed out her fur as the hawk's shadow went over her. "Come on Gorsekit!" she squeaked out of nervous fear.

Gorsekit quickly moved to the burrow's entrance. He felt his heart beat rapidly, as the sound of a hawk's screech split the air not far above his little hole. He scampered out of the dirt cover, straight to where Cloverleaf and Decipherkit stood waiting. Decipherkit looked as though she had had plenty of exploring for one day. Gorsekit had to admit, he felt much the same...
Ivytail watched her son climb out of the hole with a mix f relief and annoyance. Leave it to Gorsekit... she thought, almost smiling. But then the little joke was pushed from her thoughts as the angry hawk made a wild dive for the kits. "No!" cried Ivytail. As the hawk approached Cloverleaf, the medicine cat threw herself upon the two kits, shielding them with herself. At the same time that Cloverleaf dove for the kit, Ivytail dove for the hawk. The mother and predator met a foot off the ground, and fell with a heavy thud. Ivytail clawed and shrieked insults at the bird. The hawk, panicking now, used its talons on anything it could reach. Ivytail ignored the pain as sharp claws grazed her body. She hissed and fought until the hawk surely would want no more of this battle. She let go, and the hawk flew away. no prey being worth such a chaotic fight. Ivytail watched to be sure it was gone, before turning to the kits and Cloverleaf. "Never...Do that...Again." she panted to the younglings. Cloverleaf finally gave the kits some space. "WE need to get you to my den, and fast." she noted as she looked at the many wounds Ivytail had sustained. Ivytail nodded weakly. Then the mother limped over to the kits, and began to lead them toward the camp.
Gorsekit watched his mother move, clearly riddled with pain each time she took a step. A sudden rush of guilt swept over him. He had caused that... The little tom felt like howling with grief. The only thing that kept him from it was the fact that Cloverleaf seemed convinced his mother would be alright.

Decipherkit watched with amazment at the short lived battle. Ivytail was sure strong and brave. She padded with Cloverleaf, Ivytail, and Gorsekit back home. Staying close to the tomkit, she felt guilt flowing off his pelt. "I'm sorry," she whispered. The she-kit was looking at him with eyes full of sorry and slight guilt. "If I hadn't wanted to explore, this wouldn't have happened. I'm sorry," she said again.

Gorsekit looked over at the sound of Decipherkit's quiet meow. He could see that she felt sorry for what had happened, and he felt sort of bad for that too. "It wasn't your fault, really." he meowed, trying to cheer her up. "I was asked to keep an eye on you, wasn't I?" he added with an attempt at a smile. The young tom felt relief when they reached the camp. He watched his mother be taken to the medicine cat's den, He would have gone along, but at this point, he felt sure he would just be a burden...Instead the little tom-kit slunk to the nursery, where he sat feeling rather miserable. His mother being hurt was bad enough, but add the punishment he felt sure would arrive soon, and you had a perfectly bad evening ahead...

Decipherkit sat next to Gorsekit in the Nursery, looking at her siblings who were sleeping next to her mom. "Well, I wonder how bad this can get..." she sighed. Looked at Gorsekit with ears flattened against her head, she turned her head again and peered out of the Den. "We are in so much trouble..." she muttered to herself.

Cloverleaf left her den after Ivytail had been tended to. The queen lay sleeping in the medicine, and would need to stay the night to be on the safe side. The she-cat was heading for the nursery, after having talked with the leader. "Gorsekit, Decipherkit?" she called softly, so as not to wake the sleeping kits toward the back.
Gorsekit raised his head when his name was called. "Now we're in for it." he mumbled miserably. The young tom nudged Deciherkit to alert her to the calling cat, then walked toward the meow. He found Cloverleaf waiting for him. "How's my mother?" he asked quickly. "She is fine now, but will stay the night with me to be safe." was the reply. Cloverleaf sat then, waiting for the other kit she needed to speak with...

Decipherkit looked at Cloverleaf and slowly padded over, head down and ears back. "She's going to be okay?" the kit asked, just to make sure. The she-kit stood next to Gorsekit, feeling her stomach twist slightly with guilt and worry. Decipherkit didn't let her eyes go anywhere but level with Cloverleaf's. She awaited her punishment.

Cloverleaf bowed her head. "You both are aware now why we keep kits from wandering about without an older cat to accompany them... You suffered a great ordeal in return for your actions, and though that is not the punishment I would wish for a young cat, it seems like the only one necessary. You shall not be punished any more than the fear you have experienced. I hope that, in the future, if ever you get the urge to wander, you will make a wiser choice." with that, Cloverleaf dipped her head to the two kits, smiled, and departed from the nursery area.
Gorsekit felt even worse somehow. He would have been alright with some huge punishment. He even felt as though he deserved one. His mother lay injured in a medicine bed, all because he had led Decipherkit and himself into harms way. He felt he was getting off far too easily for his actions. He prayed to Starclan that they would forgive him. The young tom looked over and saw Decipherkit, her ears pressed flat to her head. "It isn't your fault. You don't need to feel bad. Really." Gorsekit meowed to her softly.
