A darkness had swooned in on the forest, and the woods was silent and lifeless as the moon cast a pale shadow at the bottom of a rocky crevice. An owl hooted solemnly before lighting down on an unsuspecting mouse. It took off almost instantly though, prey in claws so as to avoid any waiting predators. The wind sighed sadly and lifted green leaves into the air with a mournful whisper. Clouds, dark and hazy, crossed the sky and were discernible from the creamy mixture. No stars shone that night, instead, a dreary silence had enveloped the wilderness, and one would find the black tom unrecognizable if not for the white splash on his chest. The tom padded through the woods, paws light on the ground as his tail swayed in the air in harmony with the wind. Blue eyes blinked, almost a rare violet as Night turned his head sideways to stare at the sky. A loneliness filled his heart, but he brushed it away and continued his pace. The loner halted, however, when he scented a sweet smell that betrayed the dark silence of the forest. Blinking, he tilted his head curiously before picking up his pace towards the smell. At a trot, the tom neared the essence until he paused, spotting a sleeping bee-hive nested at the base of a maple's trunk. Smiling softly in his own way, the tom turned around only to stiffen as a voice whispered into his ears. His eyes widened, and he spun around, eyes wide, ears pricked alertly. Yet no other sounds echoed through the woods. I swear... I heard his voice... Thorn... The wind swayed a blade of grass by his paw, and he looked down to see that a puddle lay beside him. Blinking vaguely, the tom glanced into its shallow depths. The surface seemed to ripple, and he wondered if it was the wind. However, the night breeze had died down, and the tom found a face forming into a reflection. Dark tabby stripes, lighter brown fur, agonizingly vengeful green eyes. Night let out a startled yowl and stumbled backwards, his hindlegs scrabbling against the ground until... Nothing. Only empty air was beneath him, and the tom tumbled backwards, body slamming against rocks as he rolled down, down, down the ravine. His claws shot out, struggling for a grip, but he was rolling too fast, and his form rolled off a large boulder, sending the black tom landing with a thud on a sharp bed of rocks before he continued his descent. He could feel stones slicing through his fur, and he was helpless to stop himself. Mud from the other day's rain splashed over his fur as dirt clogged his vision, and his paws twisted in unimaginable ways until he finally hit the bottom with a hollow thud. He lay still, entire body numb at first. And then the pain came. Wave after wave of agony tore through his body like a fire burning the entire forest. He tried to cry out in despair, but the only sound he could make was a weak murmur as his jaw twitched feebly. He could feel warm liquid pooling around him, and he wondered vaguely if it was his own blood. He hadn't imagined to die like this. He always thought Thorn would end up killing him, or another cat who hated his family. Night's breath came in painful gasps, and with each rise and fall of his flanks, he felt dagger-like bones dig into his flesh as his broken ribs threatened to puncture skin. However, though death seemed inevitable, he had a strange feeling that now wasn't his time, as though some invisible force was telling him that there was more. The moonlight bathed his body in a milky glow, illuminating his broken figure, and his blood turned a misty silver, or so it seemed. Groaning, the loner struggled to move something, anything, but all he could feel was the overwhelming sensation of pain. He couldn't even tell where it was coming from, but he had a feeling that it was everywhere. His head pounded and throbbed, and his ears rang. His limbs felt crooked and numb, while his tail was limp and trailing out. Indigo eyes blinked back the pain, and they did not haze over as he forced his maw to open. "Someone... Help... Please..." He barely managed to whisper, and he felt a strange irony. Back in his old home, no one other than his own family would ever raise a paw to help him. They would laugh at his suffering and invite others to enjoy the show. But here, he had at least a slightly higher chance of survival. But he also didn't have his family by his side. No, he never would. His kin were dead, aside from his one remaining cousin who had vowed to kill him. Pain filled his soul at the thoughts, and he opened his mouth again. No blood dripped out, so he was relieved to realize he most likely didn't suffer any internal damage. "Someone.... Help me...."[/b/] He managed to meow louder, black ears limp at the sides of his head as he managed to raise his cranium slightly.

Amongst the nearby trees, a dark figure raced forward, long claws sticking out from their sheaths gleaming in the moonlight. His undersized figure, with his golden brown tabby pelt slicked back against the depressed wind, stretched long and thin as he took long strides. Wide yellow eyes shown brightly in the blackness. A dark aura hovered around his body. This cat could only be Bleak, the small but powerful tom, having had killed so many defenseless cats at his expense.
"Someone... Help me..." The small call managed to worm its way to the small cat's earshot. He lifted his muzzle and drew in the air, a huge scent of blood nearly overwhelming him, but there was a cat's scent among it. Bleak smirked and raced forward, the body coming into his vision. He slowed, until the golden brown tabby was standing next to the black cat he recognized as Night. Bleak spoke, his high, iced voice low, "Well, what do we have here?"

Though his vision had faded due to the aching in his head, Night managed to slid his forepaws under him, relieved to find that they were only sore, not broken. Weakly, he turned his head as a voice sounded, and he blinked twice before he could make out the figure. He didn't recognize the tom, but the voice sounded ghostly, and it reminded him faintly of how his brother had sounded upon death. "Claw? Is that you? No... It couldn't be, because you're dead..." His gaze softened, and a sad smile appeared on the black tom's expression. "Of course... How could I get my hopes up..." Murmuring only to himself now, the tom's body refused to move any further, and he was left lying limply as his flanks rose and fell, eyes struggling to identify the cat who had arrived.

Bleak reveled his sharp teeth as a cold grin came once more. Night was confused, and Bleak couldn't care less. It made things fun when you were with a confused cat. The little cat saw that Night was sort of looking at him funny, as if trying to figure out who Bleak was, so the golden brown tabby leaned forward, their noses almost touching. "Is that better, Night?" His voice hadn't changed from how he had asked his question, so it was still like a ghost. He scanned the black cat with his eyes, that had yet to blink. The body was battered, but not broken. Tired, but not to the point of death. The tabby left Night's side and walked in a slow circle around him. He blinked once, and that was enough. He sat back down in front of Night, his wide yellow eyes holding a glare. "Have you figured out who I am yet?"

Though he wanted to identify the tom, his body suddenly felt exhausted, and he struggled with all his might to force away the urge to sleep. His eyes were heavy, and black dots kept flickering over his vision, but he somehow managed to remain awake. When the tom leaned closer, Night struggled weakly to pull away. He didn't like being close to any cats, not since the massacre on his family. However, he had caught a glimpse of the stranger's face, and he suddenly realize that he knew the cat. But from where? Raking his memory, he thought for what seemed like hours until the name finally popped into his head. Cold, yellow eyes. "Bleak? Is that you?" He murmured, voice rasping slightly from the dry tone in his throat. Though he didn't know the Rouge very well, he had a feeling that if he had any chance of surviving, it probably wasn't highest with this cat around.

Bleak felt a sly smile creep across his face. "That's it, Night. It's Bleak." The small cat's iced voice was writhing with pleasure; pleasure that came from seeing Night in this state. Suddenly, a frown crossed the little cat, and he let out a "Hmn" noise. Bleak was known for his odd sounds, sounds that normally meant he didn't like something. And this fell right on that category. If this cat dies with me in front of him, it should be me who killed him. Not a land slope. Bleak looked up at where the cat had fallen. "Tch." Another noise. The little cat knew almost nothing about healing wounds, but he knew enough to get by. Turning away, Bleak bounded over to a nearby tree, old judging by the size. Cobwebs splayed around the bottom of the trunk. Bleak reached out a small paw and took some. He turned back and walked over to Night, wobbling at the loss of one paw.
Seating himself by Night's side, Bleak pressed the cobwebs to the bloodied cat's wounds. "Don't you dare think that just because I'm helping you, I'm your friend," Bleak spat. "I hate everyone, everyone. I just don't think that it's fitting for you to die in front of me without it being me who killed you." Bleak pressed a cobweb over the last wound on the upper half of the cat. A toothy grin swept across the tom's face as he placed his front paws on Night and rolled him onto his back. He knew it would hurt. Bad. The golden tabby sat down once more and began to lay cobwebs across Night's white. but blood washed, underside.

Blinking, he closed his eyes for a moment, trying to catch his breath, and when he opened them again, Bleak was gone. Confused, he wondered where the tom had gone, and he felt a sudden flicker of panick. No... I don't want to be abandoned. Not again. But his fear was put to rest as he spotted a fuzzy if not existing figure return. He recognized the strange noises the tom always made, which assured him that it was definitely the strange loner. He was about to talk when Bleak silenced him with his own words, and he wondered if he should be grateful or uneasy. Though at first his body was too numb to feel the cobwebs soaking up his blood, his nerves were set aflame as the tom suddenly rolled him onto his side, and he would have yelped in pain if he had had the energy. Instead, his jaw clenched, but he could manage no further signs of his agony, and instead, his body went limp from exhaustion. Too sore to protest to the careless healing methods Bleak was using, Night tried to focus on something else. Anything, but all he could think about was the fact that wherever he went, he had never stayed long enough to understand the cats around him. "Thank you... For the cobwebs. Most cats would leave me, even if you're only here so you can kill me later on." He meowed, voice hollow in the air as his eyes stared blankly at the sky.

Bleak shook his head. "No thanks necessary. I'm just keeping myself busy; I've been bored a lot lately." the little tom looked about the dark space, wondering what kind of creatures lurked about in the night. Things that were too strong for an undersized cat, and an injured one. Something strange sparked inside of Bleak, and he suddenly felt like he was being watched by thousands of eyes. His glowing yellow orbs raked the clearing for the presence, but saw none. He tried to think of the feeling... Unease, was it? Bleak had not found out many emotions, but he had learned from other cats what they were. Eyes turned down to Night and the tom wondered if he should leave him. Nah, it would be a waste of cobwebs and my time if he died. Bleak bent his head, grasping Night's scruff in his grip. "Hold still, got it?" Bleak said around a mouthful of fur. He began to drag the cat, avoiding stones and other sharp things that would wound the cat even more. The energy was leaving Bleak fast, since Night was much bigger than him. Reaching a group of bushes, Bleak dragged Night into the cover of the soft leaves. flopping onto his side, Bleak meowed, "Sheesh, you're heavy!"

Managing a weak protest at being dragged across the rough ravine floor, the tom struggled to assist the cat so as to make the trip less painful. Paws pushing lightly off the ground despite their sideways gait, he relaxed as he was plopped down beneath the forest leaves. Sighing, he lay still for a moment, trying to erase the throbbing pain in his body. Blinking, he glanced over at the small cat before laughing softly. "Well, you should feel lucky that you probably won't have to help many other cats larger than you. But why would you be bored when there's a whole forest for you to explore?" He meowed, black fur blending into the woods and giving Night's voice an eeri sense of a disembodied aura.

"All full grown cats are larger than me!" Bleak snapped. Hearing the question, Bleak shrugged. "It's just a bunch of trees. What's so interesting about that?" The little cat pressed his belly to the ground and crept forward to peer outside. Darkness surrounded them. the golden brown tabby narrowed his eyes and glanced around. I could have sworn something was watching us, he thought. Bleak had been to many dark places, even here. But he had never had that sense of being watched like studied experiments. He ducked back in the bush, but his eyes were still locked to the outside world.

Flinching slightly as the tom lost his temper, Night blinked before falling silent again. It wasn't that Bleak intimidated him, rather, the tom was so used to having cats yell at him that it was strange how he had not grown immune to it yet. Following the tabby's gaze into the forest, he tilted his head curiously, wondering if there was something out there that he himself did not see. "Is something wrong?"[b/] He meowed, violet eyes flickering. If something decided to attack the two, he wouldn't blame it. After all, two cats; one undersized and the other injured, would make perfect prey for a stray hungry dog or badger. Maybe even a starving enough fox. Flexing his claws just in case, he winced slightly at the aching in his limbs, but if there was someone out there and they got too close, he didn't doubt his own abilities to defend himself and Bleak if the situation called for it. Bleak blinked. "No. I just feel like we're being watched," the tabby meowed. He saw Night's claws slide out. "Relax, Night. It's just a feeling."

[xD It's fine, I run out of muse too. xD Lol, ok. I'll make a creepy animal there ] Blinking, the tom sheathed his claws, allowing his muscles to relax. However, Bleak's own tension unnerved Night. If the confident tom was uneasy, then something had to be wrong. That was when he heard something. It was somewhat of a low growl, until it rose into a high pitched wine. Eyes narrowing, Night's fur stood on end and he hissed as a creature poked its scar;et nose through the ferns. There was no doubting the slender, sly frame of its muzzle and the dangerous green eyes that smiled with a fatal attraction. The fox stepped out, russet coat calm as it examined its prey. For a moment, the tom thought it was just passing through. However, it became apparent that the creature wasn't going to give up such an easy meal, and it slowly pulled back its lips into a snarl. Claws sliding out again, Night forced himself to stand up. Teetering slightly, he ignored the agony in his ribs. If he could trick the fox into thinking he wasn't as weak as he appeared, the animal might back off faster.

Hot breath ruffled Bleak's fur, and he turned his head to see the fox. Hearing Night rise to his feet, the little cat guessed that if the fox attacked, so would the cats. Bleak rose up and back away slowly, until he stood at Night's side. He was crouched slightly, and a look of pure terror splayed across the little tabby's face. Bleak's only fear was now staring him in the face. He had carried the fear of foxes ever since he had nearly been killed by one near a Thunderpath. A monster had whizzed by, however, and crushed the fox beneath its black paws. Now, there wasn't a rank-scented path nearby. They had to handle this on their own. The rusty beast took a few more paces toward the cats. Bleak stretched up and whispered into Night's ear, "Night, I'm terrified of foxes, but we have to get rid of this thing." On that note, Bleak let out a fearsome battle cry and sprang at the russet muzzle. he sank in his extra long claws and tore down the face of the fox. the fox shook its head vigorously, knocking Bleak to the ground. right when Bleak touched the ground, the beast swatted out a paw, throwing Bleak away and into the forest. Pain pulsed through his head and he felt the hot, sticky liquid stream down his face. Night! Bleak staggered to his paws, the moonlight glinting on the blood he had lost. The tabby shot forward, screaming out his lungs and stretching his eyes wide with the pain that came with it, but he wouldn't stop. he pounced on the fox's rear, climbing his way onto its back. The fox rattled again and Bleak dropped, but got out of the way as to not get another blow. He stumbled and fell to a crouch, panting. "Night," he gasped. "You alright?"

At first, Night thought he'd imagined it, until the tom admitted his fear allowed. Surprised that Bleak didn't hesitate to share his fright of foxes, the tom didn't comment, only nodding. Every cat had something that tied them down somewhere. If Bleak was afraid of this fox yet was still willing to fight to protect himself and Night, then the tom would respect his decision and give his equal best. A slow snarl rose in his throat, and though it killed to move, the tom kicked off with his hindlegs, following after Bleak as the small tom launched himself at the fox's face. Aiming for the creature's forelegs as it was distracted by the other tom, Night bit down hard, fangs sinking into flesh. He could hear a thud and the rustle of ferns, and the next thing he knew, Bleak was gone. A brief flicker of terror filled him, but he held his ground, biting deeper and deeper into the fox until he felt his teeth scrape bone. That was when his ribs gave out though, and a shudder of pain shook his body. He froze up, unable to move, and a wave of frustration washed through him. It was all the time the fox needed, and in one quick movement it had clamped its jaws around the tom's back, literally ripping the tom free of his hold on the canine's leg. With a forceful swing, the black cat was hurled into the ground. At first, the impact jolted every bone in his body, and he shouted out in agony as his already battered sides clattered like rusty nails. His limbs jerked, and his vision blurred slightly. However, as the fox began approaching him, a figure shot from the bushes with a fierce cry, and his eyes widened when he recognized the cat as Bleak. Relieved that the tom was alright, yet fearing for the loner's life, he forced himself upright, claws sliding out once more. "As alright as I can be right now. You?" He meowed, hiding his surprise when a trickle of blood slid out the side of his mouth. Momentarily, he feared that he had internal damage from when the fox had thrown him. However, as he licked the blood from his muzzle, he winced at the stinging and realized he must've bitten it when he fell. Still, despite the throbbing pain, Bleak wouldn't be able to take on the canine alone. With a hiss, Night tensed before leaping forward, claws landing and snagging onto the fox's shoulders as he sunk his fangs into the animal's neck.
