The tom was used to the dark. When Thorn had still been chasing him with little distance between the two, he'd been unable to sleep. Partly because of his anxiety that deprived him of rest, but also because he was impatient to put as much space between himself and his cousin as possible. His violet eyes glowed like blue orbs in the darkness, and as they walked through the shadows, his ears flicked and his head snapped sideways as a strange clicking noise suddenly started. For a moment, he thought it was some strange insect; maybe a mutated cricket or some sort of bat. However, as he turned his head to the other side in Bleak's direction, it became apparent that the undersized tom was the source of the noise. Staring at the cat for several moments, Night suddenly stopped walking, looking at the cat intently before finally meowing, "How do you do that? That clicking noise... How do you make that sound?" Voice filled with simple, interested curiosity, the tom waited for some sort of response.

Watching Night's reaction, Bleak slowed and stopped a few paces ahead of the black tom, still clacking. Hearing Night's question, Bleak clacked one last time, louder than ever before. Laughing softly, the little cat tipped his head to the side. "Why? Scary?" he asked. Chuckling to himself, Bleak padded forward to stand in front of his traveling companion. "It's simple; put your tongue on the roof of your mouth. After that, suck in air a little and relax you tongue. Try it." Bleak clacked loudly to show the other tom one last time. "See? Easy." Bleak watched with amusement dancing in his large eyes. This ought to be good...

Blinking as he listened to the cat's instruction, the tom stood still, following the cat's advice and placing the tip of his tongue on the roof of his mouth. Leaving it there for a moment, he recalled the next step, sucking in a slight air pocket and then allowing the muscle to relax. As he waited and listened to Bleak's example, he let his tongue flick, and with a yelp of pain, he crouched down, withdrawing his tongue while breathing in and out rapidly, trying to cool the sharp stinging he felt. "It dubbin't wuk! I bidded meh tonga!" He complained, eyes worried as he wondered if he'd lose his speech permanently. Then he recalled a time when Claw had been talking non-stop about some loner he'd met while eating when he'd suddenly bit down on his own tongue and whined for the rest of the day. However, within a few minutes he was back to normal with no trouble speaking whatsoever. Instead, Night was left with a deep sense of embarassment, and he wondered if his burning pelt looked as red as it felt.

Tossing back his head, Bleak erupted with laughter. "I knew it! I knew that would happen!" Bleak's laughter was warm, unlike his normal laugh, which was cold. But it had definitely not lost its volume. The loud vibrations echoed around, bouncing back from the shadows. Tipping onto his back, the little cat's front paws were held to his belly while his back legs kicked out. "You- your voice! You aren't supposed to flick your fang, you flick the bottom of your mouth. You did it way wrong it you even touch those things!" Getting a bit of a hold on himself, Bleak sat up. "Hoo," Bleak breathed out, trying to calm down a bit. "That was funny. I knew that you wouldn't pull it off; it took me almost a year to get that one down. Common mess up." Bleak stood up and signaled with his tail for the two to keep moving. "Plus, I am the master of sound."
After moving for a while in silence, Bleak looked toward the night sky. "Hey, Night?" the little cat's high voice sliced the silence. "Why did you get named night? Were you solid black at birth and grew those patches or what?"
OOC:: Sorry, a little random but I needed the conversation to move a little better...

OOC: x3 I luff Bleak. Feeling his face burn, the tom stared at his paws. "You knew that would happen?!" He was unable to stop himself, though he was relieved that his voice had at least returned to normal. That had saved him some humiliation, though he wished he hadn't been c.ocky enough to try making the sound in the first place. "Yes, I think I've noticed that by now." He purred in amusement at the Master of Sound comment. As the two fell into a peaceful silence while continuing their walk, he turned his head as the smaller cat spoke again. "Hmmm? No; I've always looked like this. My father's pelt and my mother's eyes. I supposed I was called Night because my father was named Moon. The moons shines in the night, or something like that... I don't really know, though it's probably because I'm the spitting image of my father, and seeing as he was called Moon for the single white patch on his black fur, I'm Night for my pitch colored pelt..." Shrugging, he smiled sheepishly before meowing, "And what about you? Why were called Bleak?"

OOC:: These two make such a funny travel group!
"That makes sense; you were named by significance. Moon, Night. Sounds sensible," Bleak meowed. His large eyes filled with memories, trying to recall any thought of his father. He sighed when he failed. "Me?" Bleak paused before speaking his reply. "My eyes. My mother hated me at birth, so she named me for my deformity." Bleak shrugged. "I don't really mind. I mean, it is sort of true, I have the blankest look in my eyes, so it's only fitting." Avoiding the other tom's gaze, Bleak looked in the opposite direction as he spoke. "So... Umm..." Bleak was embarrassed at the question he wanted to ask. "What is it like to know some cat you can call 'Father'?" he finally blurted, ducking his head. "I was just wondering... I don't know my father, or if he is even alive..."

The tom winced slightly at the loner's words. He knew what it was like to be hated from birth, but not by his family. Well, Thorn, Jack, and Tay were part of my family, so I guess that counts. But I never had to experience their hatred first-paw while I was young. "I don't really think your eyes look strange. They're more so interesting." He meowed, voice sincere as he watched the cat look away. The next question took him off-guard, and the awkwardness was obvious as he wasn't sure what to say. "W... Well... I took my family for granted before I lost them. That was when I really realized how much they meant to me, but my father... It felt like I had a purpose; to follow in his steps and lead our family if he were to pass away or retire... Even after learning of the unforgiveable things he did in life, I will not regret something that once made me smile. He was still my father..." Looking up, he smiled at the tom cat. "I'm sorry about your father... This may sound strange and out of the ordinary, but what if we became each other's foster kin? Seeing as you no longer have contact with your family and neither do I with mine, we could be something like brothers." He purred. Or cousins... Instantly, his thoughts directed towards the dark tabby tom, his last remaining kin who just so happened to want to kill him.

Bleak purred and laughed. "So, you would be like a brother to me? The murderous cat who you hardly know." Calming, the little cat's voice went very serious. "I killed my brothers and sister... Would you still be like a brother after knowing that? I can tell you one thing: If I were you, I would have ran at the first sight of my true half." Bleak glanced back to where the slaughtered fox lay, cold, motionless, dead. "Even after that?" The tom's voice was a hushed whisper. He could recall his mother; leaving him alone after he had slit his brothers' throats, and drowned his sister. Bleak allowed his eyes to almost close fully, leaving them open just a slit.

The tom blinked and tilted his head, eyes unreadable as he looked at the tom, listening yet not showing many signs of emotion. Strangely, he didn't flinch at the cat's words, and when Bleak finished, he smiled at the tom, violet eyes soft despite the meaning of the loner's words. "And? The only family I have are either dead or want to kill me. Two misfits... Two wrongs don't make a right, but I'd say they're pretty close. Whatever you've done in the past Bleak, doesn't matter. Because who am I to judge a cat I've only just met? I've never had a brother who I could really relate to, even somewhat. That's why... If you hurt me, you'll be forgiven." Smiling softly, Night's words drifted into the silence.

Opening his eyes fully, Bleak looked up at Night's soft smile. "Hmm," Bleak hummed as he allowed a small, soft smile to cross his muzzle. Taking the bigger cat's words into mind, everything fit together perfectly. Nodding to the pitch cat, Bleak meowed loudly, "Alright, Brother."
OOC:: Gah... Museless

OOC: It's fine. xD Would you say this thread is finished? One of us can start another one I guess, where they could run into Thorn or something. It's up to you. Trying to recall the last time he'd been called by that name, he felt a a warmth inside him that stung like a bitter poison being poured over still-open wounds. He missed Claw, and Leaf. Missed their encouraging smiles, Leaf's curious eyes, Claw's sincere voice. Everything about them that had somehow slipped from his memory returned, filling him with new scars as he realized what he had lost. Like a thorn piercing his paw, he wondered how something could hurt in such a bitter sweet way. He smiled at Bleak as they walked. It felt strange when he told himself that he was side by side with his brother. The last time he'd thought that was with Claw, who had always seemed so authorative. Also, his older brother had been much taller than himself, so the contrast compared to Bleak was foreign, though he ignored it. It was the thought that counted. Still... The pain that comes with those words is undescribable... Yet almost refreshing, as if I'm being stitched back up. The needle and thread sting, yet the wound is healing ever so slowly. Violet gaze soft as the night air caressed the forest, the black cat walked in silence, no more needing to be said as the calm wind rested, looming over the quiet woods; watching, waiting, wondering what would become of the two brothers. Claw, I'm not replacing you. But if it'll keep my loneliness back, then please let me be selfish just this once. Even if it hurts me, let me keep this moment so that I might not forget it the way I forgot the time I had with you and everyone else. He felt a weight seemingly lift off his shoulders, as though he had been carrying a body on his back only to finally have its spirit fade away into the darkness. His brother could rest now. Claw knew Night no longer needed him there, and Night knew his brother had accepted that the black cat was grown and able to take care of himself. Like a lapse in time, what looked like ashes drifted away into the air, and the tom wondered if he had imagined it. Blinking, he looked closer but found nothing. No, not nothing; potential. Though it was empty, there was a place for something new to grow. As long as he was willing to nurture it. Feeling somewhat more at peace than normal, the tom set off into the woods alongside his new brother, black pelt wreathed in the shadowy undergrowth as he seemed to vanish into the darkness like a ghost.
