Eveningkit trotted out to the clearing, slightly shivering at the shadow that had sheltered the nursery. His litter mates had concocted bug stew, a mixture made by squishing a stink-bug and mashing it with a pulp of leaves. The rank was unbearable, but of course he wasn't chicken and planked his feet to the ground, sickened by even glancing at it. Can't something smell good for once? he thought miserably. But the queens came in, chastised and scolded them, then everyone had been banished from the den. Personally, he didn't care. What's a little stink going to do? Suffocate someone? Sighing, he plopped his furry bottom on the ground, spying jealously at the two she-cat apprentices. I should be that, he spat to himself, an actually cat, who isn't trapped in a cave all day. They get to chat and train and hunt, while we sit around rotting our minds away. They get all the fun. Spinning around, he eyed the leader's den, and sure enough Fallenstar had left the mouth of the cave to discuss issues with Calicopelt, the pretty medicine cat. Gawking slightly, admiring her good looks, a warrior appeared in his view. Russetstorm had arrived from training with his bubbly apprentice Lilypaw. The cat looked once in his direction, then carried on. I'll be like that when I grow up, he promised himself. Meanwhile, his thoughts were about his mother. And his aunt. Elodie had never told him about his ThunderClan father, and for the lying, he ran away. Half-starved and freezing, he didn't finish his goal and meet his father. But he survived, and right then, that was all that mattered. But maybe, at Gatherings, he 'd see his father, the strong, brave tom that the rogues had foretold as 'perfect'. Unlike me! something joked. He hissed, then half-shut his green emerald eyes, resting his mind, breathing slowly.

[navy]Irritation rolled off the tom in waves as he stalked into Camp. Golden eyes were narrowed impatiently, and his black tail lashed in anger. Yeah, great. Everyone but me gets to have a great day. Glancing around camp, his eyes fell on a small figure who seemed to be watching his clanmates enviously. Halting in his grumpy stride, Icewreath blinked, staring at the kit with the faintest interest. Hmmmm? Someone who looks almost as depressed as me. But isn't he usually the one who's always bouncing around the Nursery? Flicking one ear, he continued walking by until a horrible smell caused him to halt mid-step. Wrinkling his nose, he cast a disgusted look at the den. "What in Starclan's name is that?" He hissed aloud, nose wrinkling to block out the stench.[/navy]

Eveningkit jumped at the sound of the newcomer's voice, but soon realized it was only Icewreath commenting on the rank that was continually building. He shrugged and moved to where the warrior was residing. Might as well tell him, he thought innocently. "Beetle stew in the nursery," he told the tom, with wide eyes. Soon he'd be the warrior asking the questions. The thought bubbled up inside of him.

[Icewreath, not Russetstorm. ^^] [navy]Flicking one ear, he looked at the tom disbelievingly before looking back at the source of the smell. "Beetle stew?" He meowed, allowing the faintest hint of curiosity to reach his voice. Sitting down, the black tom tilted his head before glancing back at Eveningkit. "I'm going to guess the youngest members of Riverclan are responsible?" It was a good thing he was talking to a kit, though. He tended to lose his temper easily when speaking with older cats. They always knew more, and it gave him the feeling that he couldn't trust them. But kits were innocent. Ignorant and clueless to what had happened in Icewreath's life; that was why he felt safest speaking with them.[/navy]

[GRRR! I keep messing up in everything. *Chants 'Icewreath' over and over.*]
"Well, I think it's cool," Eveningkit started, looking back once at the nursery. It wasn't good-smelling, but slightly tasty. He groaned. All the kits had been dared to try a bite, and the tom thought he might have puked. One look at the liquid and you could scrunch up your nose in disgust. "But no, we aren't that responsible."

[navy]Casting a doubtful look at the Nursery, the tom looked back down at Eveningkit. Sighing, he meowed finally, "Alright, whatever you say..." A silence seemed to hang in the air as he was left without any other words to speak. I hate conversations. Because they always end up leading to a place where both cats can not respond. Blinking, he sighed and sat down. "Life can seem like it sucks sometimes, huh?" He meowed in a bored tone, flicking his tail across a blade of grass.[/navy]

[For that mistake, I'll give you karma. Plus you're nice, so that's another reason.]
Eveningkit stared confusingly at the warrior, slightly wondering what Icewreath had meant. So far, it was good, but he was only a young kit, so he didn't really have a clue. But yeah, sometimes it sucked when the others never listened. But at least it was fun. "Yeah, sometimes it does...but you usually have more good days than bad days, so they aren't really that overpowering, right?"

[xP Lol, you didn't have to do that.] [navy]Sighing, the tom glanced over at the kit. "Eh, you're quite the optimistic one. Well, so long as you keep looking at life that way until you reach Starclan, than you'll be fine." He meowed bleakly, in what he thought to be a reassuring tone. He's just a kit, don't say these things to him. Blinking glowing eyes, he stared at the rustling tree-tops. "Where're your real parents anyway?" He meowed suddenly, completely disregarding the reminder he had just given himself.[/navy]

Eveningkit ignored the praise, and swallowed. Whenever anybody asked him about his parents, he replied by saying, "I don't know.'' Maybe even an, "One's in the Clans.'' But nothing else. And it gave him the shudders. He always hated being reminded. The bitterness would crawl inside him and it wouldn't fade. With a scorching look on his face, he pawed the ground, mumbling to the ground loud enough for the warrior to hear, ''I...it's complicated."

[navy]Looking away from the kit, he stared at the sky. The clouds drifted carelessly with no worries. "Well, isn't everything?" He meowed, a crooked smile on his face. Sighing heavily, the tom rolled onto his side, resting his head on the ground and closing his eyes. One might think the black cat was sleeping, until he spoke that is. "Families are complex, friends are complex. Relationships in general are complicated. That's why I'm better of without them. It's good that you're still able to smile despite that though." He meowed lazily, tail flicking back and forth; as if tapping a beat on the ground.[/navy]

"What's your family?" Eveningkit sighed as he kneaded the ground, eventually laying down on it. The dead pine needles sprawled over relaxed him, a sort of comfort no moss or wool could create. As he returned the question, he pondered in his mind many questions. A whole bunch of pictures and memories-his dad, his mom, his aunt- swirled aimlessly around his head.

[navy]The tom fell silent, and his tail stopped twitching. A quiet drifted through the air until he finally spoke again. "My family.... I don't have a family." Not anymore. We mean nothing to each other. That is how I will remember. Blinking, he twisted his head to the side so he could see the kit. "You're awfully young to be thinking about these things." He meowed, ears flicking at the small cat.[/navy]

Eveningkit shrugged. That was about as vague as his reply was, so they were even. Swishing his small fluffy white tail, he stared at Icewreath with wide blue orbs. The awkward silence drifted over again, and he hated how no one was talking. In the nursery everyone was chatting, but out here was different. "I don't think I'm that young," he commented, then continued, "I'm one of the oldest in the nursery."

[navy]Looking at the small kit in disbelief, he held back a sniff of laughter. "Maybe, but compared to me and the other warriors, you're a blade of grass." He smirked, though there was more of a playful nature to his voice than insult. Flicking his tail, he sat up as if to emphasize his looming height. "Oh. I think you look pretty young from up here." Yawning, he shook his black pelt and glanced up at the sky. A whispy cloud had passed over the sun, and the camp was temporarily cast in shadows. Shadows... Memories filled his mind. Memories of a dark woods forever covered by shades of leaf and undergrowth. A she-cat, pure white, leading three kits into its depths. Blinking away the image, he glanced back down at Eveningkit. "So, as one of the nursery elders, are you in charge of watching over your denmates?" He asked, curling his tail around himself.[/navy]

Eveningkit bit back a squeal of protest. He didn't appreciate being called a 'blade of grass' even though that would be good for comparing his small features and their lean, hard muscles. However accurate it was, though, he didn't like the name. Puffing out his chest, he tried to make himself as big and tall as he could. The white it answered to the warrior's question. "Nah, they're too boring. I want to be an apprentice!"
