Blinking, the tom looked over at the she-cat. He smiled softly before glancing up at the darkening sky. "I know you didn't want me to talk..." He trailed off, violet eyes cast upwards as an echoing boom filled the air. A storm had set in, obviously, but the tom's everlasting smile didn't change. "And I asked you earlier... But are you sure you're never lonely? Not even a little?" His words died as thunder shook the forest, drowning out his voice. As it shuddered away into the low drumming of raindrops on the earthen floor, he meowed, "Because there is a difference between being alone and being lonely. But I know you're one of those... Or at least you think you are." He sighed, laying down and flopping onto his side. Exhaling, his eyes glanced up once more before he smiled and closed them. "And even if it doesn't reassure you at all, you shouldn't be either, because even if you don't like me, I consider you one of my friends. Which means you're never really alone, and you don't have to be lonely." The tom's voice drifted off slightly, bleary and heavy as the rain took its toll and tired the tom. It was strange how he always seemed to fall asleep on wet days, but that day was no exception.

Shooting an icy glare at the ground, Minx bristled and let her claws unsheathe, digging them deep into the ground. She was not lonely, and she wouldn't be alone forever. Someday she would rule the forest, she didn't need friends...just loyal followers. Head snapping off the ground, the black cat twisted to stare heatedly at the smiling tom. "I am not lonely," the she-cat spat, "and nor do I need a friend!" Throat gurgling with an aggressive growl, Minx quickly looked away and narrowed her eyes at the sky, the fur along her spine prickling with anger.

"Then what do you need?" He meowed, resting his head on his paws. He wasn't sure why, but he felt a warmth in his heart when he was near the she-cat. Maybe it was her rebellious nature, or the way she stood fast and strong to whatever she did. Well, she couldn't really stand right now, but that wasn't the point. "You know, you really are remarkable... Being able to live alone for all this time and not being afraid... I wish I could be like you sometimes..." He meowed aloud, not even realizing the words had come from his mouth. Instantly, he felt his fur go hot and he wondered if he looked like a ripe tomatoe. Trying to nonchalantly bury his muzzle in his paws so she couldn't see how embarassed he was at his own unexpected confession, he thanked the sky that he hadn't completely told his feelings to her. After all, he had just met her. He couldn't be sure he was feeling anything more than friendship towards the cat.

Upper lip curling at his question, she couldn't help but smirk. What did she need? It wasn't simply a question of what she needed, more so what she thought she would get all in good time. "You will see, you simple minded creature. After all how could you not notice being under the leadership of the taker of lives? Ha!" Mentally Minx chuckled in cruel amusement, though out loud she refused to take notice of the question. But the next thing he said wiped the jagged smile off her face quick as if she had been hit in the head by a brick. Green orbs slanting in dangerous thought, the she-cat snorted faintly and let her claws rake shallow trenches in the soft earth. If that is what you truly think...than obviously you are not thinking straight..." she hissed under her breath, "though I noticed your lack of brains the moment I met you of course." What the tom had said was strange, and it disturbed Minx for reasons deep within her self.

The tom remained silent, his smile fading to a thin line as he stared off into the distance. Violet eyes filled with a mixture of various thoughts, the tom's eyes gathered a far-off look. So many cats had different backgrounds. He knew nothing of Minx's past, but a part of him yearned for the she-cat to let him understand her thoughts and emotions. Slowly, ever so gradually, the tom began to reflect on what life had been like for him before he had lost everything. Moon would be teaching Claw about the laws of their kingdom. After all, Night's older brother was heir to the throne. Leaf would be speaking with Rain, while Night, Blackie, Hawk, Tawny, and Streak would be wrestling and hunting together. Pain clouded the tom's vision as he remembered his mother's gentle smile, Streak's playful jokes, but most of all, the feelings of warmth, comfort, and security he had been enveloped in when they were around him. Blinking, the memories slowly ebbed away and the tom looked over at Minx, his eyes losing their cheerful nature and being replaced with a still calm. "Maybe you're right. But who am I to judge you?" He meowed, voice steady despite the pained thoughts from before.

Bristling shoulders calming, the black she-cat grunted and laid her head slowly back down on her paws. Night sounded strange, as if he had gone through some bad memory, the happy aura around him fading. "Good, maybe he'll keep his trap shut!" Minx grumbled mentally, tail tip twitching. Finely after a while she replied with a simple,"Huh...." Her green gaze narrowed intensely at a small stone.

Tilting his head, the tom stared at the bark of a nearby tree, finding patterns and pictures in its wooden weavings. He thought he saw the footprint of a squirrel, but then he recalled that it was impossible to imprint a tree trunk. Holding back a laugh at this realization, the tom looked back over at Minx. "... Do you have any family?" He asked absent-mindedly, a somewhat bored expression crossing over him. Now that Minx had calmed down somewhat, it might be easier to talk to her. Though asking such a personal question might set her right back to how she was before.

Green orbs following a small bug that had landed on a blade of grass as it tried to escape the rain drops, Minx shivered. Now past sprinkling, the rain felt damp and uncomfortable on her snarled pelt and below her the ground was growing muddy. Shifting her body, the black she-cat curled herself up tighter and tried to ignore the wet feeling. When Night asked about her family, Minx let out a growl of amusement. "Your guess is as good as myn," She mumbled, whiskers dripping with the sky water. Family? Minx snorted, she hadn't thought about that in a long time, but of course, even if she did have a family somewhere out there, its not like she would remember who there where or what the looked like for that matter.

The tom looked over at her, unreadable thoughts in his eyes. For a moment, he was quiet, which he figured was what the she-cat wanted, but he soon obliterated her hopes by asking, "Then please; tell me the first things you remember." He meowed, voice calm as he stood up, turning to face the she-cat with eyes that almost seemed cold, losing their former warmth. Everyone has a family. Even if they're dead, they're still your family. Everyone has at least a mother and a father, because that's how they were created. However, if one does not recall having a family, then that is the true point of desperation.

Rolling her shoulders, Minx closed her eyes and gritted her teeth. "If I knew anything...I don't think I'd be here dung-brain!" She wanted to yowl, but for some reason she held back. Why was this cat so nosy? Cracking open her eye lids, she stared at a puddle forming in front of her face. Slowly leaning forward, Minx beheld a cloudy image of herself. The sight made her growl and in a sudden burst of anger she splattered the water with her fore paw shattering the image. Slightly satisfied, she smirked and pulled her head back again. Knowing that Night would continue to question her, Minx stared up at the treetops. "Nothing..." She mumbled, an almost far away looking forming in her eyes.

The tom held back a sigh and instead lay back down. He didn't quite understand Minx, and he had a feeling that he wouldn't for many, many moons to come. But that didn't mean that he was going to stop trying. No, he'd given up on too many chances, too many possibilities, and too many paths to take. He wasn't going to let this strange cat slip away before he got to know her story. Sure, he wasn't the best when it came to catching onto things, but it was his persistence that kept him from flopping down and losing hope that maybe he could get her to open up to him. Smiling to himself, he shrugged it off and rested his head on his paws. "Well, I guess that's alright. Nothing can happen if time is at a stand-still. Minx, do you want to learn about your past?" To most cats, this was a stupid question. Of course they'd want to know about their own heritage and history, but he wasn't so sure about Minx. Despite her obvious solitary living, she had denied feeling any emotions similar or likewise to loneliness, and he believed her. She almost seemed content, in a strange way, with her current life-style. He wondered if she might not want to learn about her past if it meant changing the present. Still, he couldn't help but feel curiosity and suspence mingling together. What past was so different that a cat couldn't even remember it? Perhaps she'd hit her head as a kit and had forgotten everything? No, that couldn't be it. He'd never heard of a cat getting brain damage powerful enough to wipe out their entire memory. Besides, he'd only heard of that in this case where a cat would end up hitting their head so hard that they'd die all together. Sighing, he heard a splash of water and glanced over at the she-cat, tilting his head to try and see what it was. His eyes fell on a pool of water, though it seemed shallow. Most likely the she-cat had lashed out at it, for her forepaw was wet and liquid lay scattered, darkening the otherwise dry soil beneath the shelter. But she is quite an interesting character. He thought, smiling at the she-cat despite her obvious distaste towards him.

Rolling her eyes, she gave up trying to shake the rain drops from her pelt and let the sky water drench her black coat. In a way it felt good, as if it where washing away all the mud and blood on her pelt. Yet hard as it might try, erasing the scars would be impossible, they where as scarred into her pelt as they where into her brain. Skin numbing, Minx blinked cold from her gaze, ears laid flat against her head. "Why would I?" She replied rather smugly, "I'm perfectly content with the way things are now. Only the foolish move back to the past." What she said was only half true. Though her mind refused to accept it, some part of her wanted to know what had happened before the two leg hell, yet at the same time she didn't want to know, afraid that it would be just as bad as was the past she knew all to well.

The tom smiled faintly, and he rested his head on his paws once more. "I figured you'd say that." He sighed, eyes gentle as he stared into the distance, not really thinking of anything in particular. Black fur blown in the wind, he wondered if there were other cats like Minx; wanting nothing to do with their pasts. Sometimes he wondered if he should pretend he was someone else, obtain a new identity, start over fresh and new. After all, wasn't that why he was here in the forest? Strangely though, he felt he shouldn't run from his own responsibilities, and he decided that it was his duty to remain loyal and not cast away his ties to his family, and he came across the decision that being hunted because of who he was was better than being loved for someone he was not. "Minx... What would you do if someone ever told you about your past?" He meowed, wondering aloud as he spoke.

The she-cat closed her eyes and let out a long irritated sigh. It seemed that she had run into the cat with never ending questions, perhaps that's why he was alone? His talking had scared ever cat in the forest away! Cursing her luck, Minx opened her eyes again and stared down at her paw where a long jagged scar ran down the fore leg. Bending down, she slowly rasped her pink tongue across the old wound. "Like they would ever get close enough to tell me anything. I'd sooner snap there neck than listen to that kind of nonsense!" She snarled with amusement between licks.

The tom purred in amusement at her answer, obviously not taking her threat seriously. He smiled to himself, crossing his forepaws and watching the treetops sway in the wind as rain dashed across the ground, as though racing each other to see who could form a puddle the fastest. But it takes more than one to create a pool of water. Blinking, he purred before saying softly, "You make me curious, Minx. You really are an interesting cat." Tail swishing good-naturedly, he wondered what Thorn would think of this she-cat. She had a more firey personality then his cousin, but they both seemed equally serious with everything they said and did.
